Actually Google, Yahoo, MSN and other smaller search engines will visit your site automatically and index your web pages.
You can visit each of them and submit your site, but that does not speed up the process at all since, again, your site will be visited automatically by the various search engine spiders.
What%26#039;s important though is that each of your web pages are search engine friendly. This means avoid flash if possible, have excellent titles with relevant keywords, and have very good keyword and keyword phrases based specifically for each of your web page and it%26#039;s type of content.
Meta tags are not important these days at all. The only tag that is sometimes used is your %26#039;Description%26#039; tag.
You want to follow good HTML and XHTML and CSS practices. There are lots of good free online tutorial sites to learn in these areas.
Here%26#039;s a very good site: http://www.seo-guy.com/tutorial.html
The listings you see of various websites that come up in Yahoo, Google and MSN are called %26#039;organic%26#039; listings. The higher the rank of your site the closer to the top your website will be displayed in search engine queries.
The are other paid ways to get traffic to your site and the most common one is called Pay Per Click, or PPC.
Yahoo has their called Overture and Google has theirs called Adwords and MSN has one too. In having PPC ads you basically are bidding on popular keywords related to your web page content, service or business, and pay for the ranking.
For example, if your website sold %26quot;overalls%26quot; you would bid on keywords related to %26quot;overalls%26quot; and then when someone searches for overalls your website shows up at the top. You are only charged when someone clicks on your site.

You must get a domain name and be hosted by somebody. Yahoo! help desk can help you if you want to pay them.
Other Replys:Yahoo and Google use an algorythm to determine your ranking in their search results. Basically it is dependant on your content and keywords metta tags and correct html coding to place you in the top 10. These two will take time sometimes up to 3 months for them to show up. You can submit your site to both engines but then your really just gonna have to wait. Make sure you add meta tags to all your images with key words you feel your customers would search for. May companies including mine offer a service called SEO (Search Engine Optimization) where we go thru your existing site and impliment keywords, meta tags, txt files and site maps to help you rank better in the Search Engines such as Yahoo and Google. Each search engine uses its own method for ranking. My personal site ranks 1st on Yahoo but 3rd on Google and really there is no way to control exactly where you will end up. Search for some articles on SEO and see if any of thoes tips and tricks help or Contact a web development company to do it for you.

Yahoo and Google have bots that automatically crawl the web and gather information about your web site. Other than paying for ads, you could try optimizing your site by making sure your information is in text form (if you have a lot of flash, or text in the form of images, the bots won%26#039;t pick this up).
