My grandfather has decided to hire me to do some work for his internet business. He is wondering if I want to be paid by the project or by the hour, and how much. I have no idea. Does anyone know how much someone usually gets paid to design web pages?

I get the specs for the job first, then make an estimate, and give that to my client (potential). If agreed upon, I get paid 50% up front, 50% on finish.
I don%26#039;t work for family, that only can cause problems, but it%26#039;s your choice what to do, I would say whatever benefits you personally. I%26#039;d lean towards hourly for working for family if he wants to pay you.
