Website page design help!?

if i want to make a website that people post queries and other answer the problems, i cannot give web designers an approx number of pages i need because it could be loads.

eg. yahoo answers has thousands of pages because thousands of people ask questions

so how do i get around this problem?

These types of websites are called dynamic in that they dynamically populate content from a database. There are static pages and dynamic pages. You are thinking of static pages that simply sit on a server and display text content and graphics. Dynamic pages call information from a database as it is needed.

(ie - in the case of yahoo answers, after you submit a questions, it queries the yahoo answers database for the answers that were associated with your question. So really there are not several pages, only millions text answer that have been added to the database and displayed on your screen when you request them.)

You would need a web developer or programmer, not a web designer if hiring this out. A web programmer would build the front-end of a website with an interface that queries answers when requested and populates a webpage with those answers. They would likely do this with a web programming language such as ASP/PHP/Coldfusion and a database such as Access/SQL, etc.

If you are a novice this is definitely over your head. You may want to check craigslist or rentacoder.com and hire this one out.

Yahoo answers doesn%26#039;t have one page per question, so I would seriously doubt that they have thousands of pages. There is a question page that queries a database and retrieves one question and it%26#039;s associated answers to display.

Add - I would suggest taking a class on website design. Please don%26#039;t take this personally, but judging by your question, you have no experience in dynamic website design or programming. Therefore, it would take a very long time for someone to explain every last little detail to you regarding your question.
