I want to layout a website page, and need to know the best width and height that will be seen when the page is loaded (without scrolling). If I design in Illustrator, what page size should I set? Is there an industry standard for the basic view?
Thanks!
What is the standard size (or proportion) of web page?
A significant number of people still use 800x600 monitors. With the scroll bar on the right and the little margins and such, I%26#039;d recommend something like 760 wide, and 480-500 tall.
(Really, the way to do this is to set your monitor to 800x600, take a screen shot (shift-alt-PrintScreen), paste that into a graphics program, and ... never mind, I just did it. I get a window size of 778 x 438. Of course, if the user has an extra toolbar (Yahoo or Google or something) that 438 will be somewhat smaller.)
Keep in mind that normal HTML sets a little space (4-8 pixels, I think) on the top and left margins. You can set the topmargin and leftmargin to 0 (in the body tag) to save this space.
What is the standard size (or proportion) of web page?
There is none. I usually like to use percents rather than pixels. This way everything just stretches to fit the window.
Wow, that was two answers to different questions on this rather unique topic in a row.
Other Replys:This is a page which has basic information about what a majority of people have for browser sizes.
Hope this helps.
