W3schools is a great place to learn just about every script related to webpages you can think of.

Of course, thats only if you plan on learning the scripting languages themselves. (If you know the scripting languages, you only need a text editor as your page editor ;) )

(assuming you want more than the crappy %26quot;FREE%26quot; design your own website options that are out there)

You need a website design program to start with. I use Adobe GoLive. I bought a book (Adobe Classroom in a book) and it was an interactive tutorial. For example, it will say open a new page, and you do that step. Each chapter covers a new area of the program. When you are done, you should have a good basic idea of how to create a basic website (no java - scripts - or other advanced stuff).

It helps very much if you have a basic concept of design, or are at least comfortable with a computer. If you have no idea whatsoever, I would then suggest you start out at a local Adult Education class where you could get more %26quot;basic%26quot; instruction.

I bought Designing with Web Standard and Bulletproof Web Design and learned so much from these and many more by going to their sites and reading, reading books, and the first time I learned html, was when I bought a Learn HTML in 7 days, read it in 3 nights and started experimenting from there.

lynda.com has some good books, but you want to learn, the most up-to-date stuff, not ancient HTML methods.
