A coffee shop is letting me do their web page for free so I can build up my portfolio. I have a lot of ideas, but since I am not a coffee drinker I was just wondering what are some of the things I should include?
Does anyone have any ideas to put in a web page that I am designing for a coffee shop?
you should have on the opening page a cup of coffee and when the steam comes out of the cup of %26#039;hot%26#039; coffee, have the links and choices in the steam .. kinda floating up to the top with them!

It isn%26#039;t up to you, it%26#039;s up to the coffee shop. Close communication with your client is key. Interview someone there so you KNOW what they are expecting!
Other Replys:Design tip of the day :
THERE ARE NO COMPLICATED DESIGN CLASSICS.
Keep it clean simple, smart and elegant. It doesn%26#039;t matter if you are a coffee drinker - you%26#039;re a consumer, you look at a shop website you want to know their prices and the times they%26#039;re open and what their services are.
If you%26#039;re going to be a designer that youre going to find you%26#039;ll suddenly have to become and expert in a lot of stuff that you don%26#039;t know anything about.
I can%26#039;t stand football but have designed a lot of promotional stuff to advertise it.
Anyway
You shouldn%26#039;t be having to generate the content or decide on the navigation that%26#039;s completely down to the client - they should be giving you content and a sitemap, and secondly you shouldn%26#039;t be designing ANYTHING for free.
Put it this way, once you build up a folio of websites and want to start charing - how do you think you%26#039;re going to get any work when there%26#039;s goign to be the next lot of people doing websites for free to build up THEIR portfolio?
Other Replys:I like the coffee cup idea. Also talk to your customer about the importance of SEO. Here is a guide to getting started: http://www.richkahmer.com/build-a-websit...
If the coffee shop is going to have events / live music at their shop, talk to them about including a calander on the site.
