This page includes alot of popular web design ideas that are absolutely awful. Included are things like using Flash for navigation, splash pages (except for liquor, gambling, porn etc.), and blocking right click access. Would you consult this list when you are designing a website to make sure that it doesnt suck?
If you%26#039;re designing a website, do you consult Web Pages That Suck%26#039;s criteria to prevent making a bad site?
I don%26#039;t consult that. The reasonable points I already knew, but a few of them are too picky.
An experienced designer will have long figured this stuff out. If you don%26#039;t know it, by all means refer to that list.

No. Then again I%26#039;m something of a minimalist who follows the K.I.S.S. principle when I build websites.
Other Replys:no, if you are a good webpage designer, you wouldnt have to look it up
Other Replys:Generally, it is a very good idea to use the KISS princible
KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID.
The use of good old common since works better than anything someone else has come up with.
There are good times to use flash animation, and all the bells and whistles. 99% of the time this in no more than smoke and mirrors and detracts from the site.
It isn%26#039;t neccessary to add the glitz and glamour just to be different. Different isn%26#039;t always better.

Other Replys:I love that site! There%26#039;s some real trainwrecks featured there! Aside from really knowing his stuff, Vincent is pretty funny.
Anyway, one thing to keep in mind is that his criteria is mainly geared toward business sites. If you%26#039;re creating or running a business site then it is good to go by his criteria the best that you can (or want to).
My personal site kind of sucks by his criteria (text beneath the fold), but it%26#039;s a personal site after all and suites my uses.
I did, however, make changes as a result of his (and the other web designers who comment there) recommendations, and was happy with the results.
He has a good simple saying as far as business sites go (something like):
%26quot;Do you see Amazon.com doing it? If not, don%26#039;t do it!%26quot;
I kind of wish people making personal sites would go be his recommendations as well, but some people can%26#039;t resist putting scrolling text, trailing cursors, or whatever other effects they find %26quot;cool%26quot; (especially if they%26#039;re new at it). I always remind myself that it%26#039;s usually just a faze people go through.
Flash navigation does really annoy me, though. People who use Windows with updated browsers and Flash may see no problem with it (and wonder why others would since they never experienced it from any other PC but their own). With my Opera on Linux, Flash can be problematic at times.
Some people just don%26#039;t understand that not everyone uses Windows and IE (or Firefox). I consider it a little arrogant of sites that %26quot;require%26quot; that in order to view them. I usually leave them quickly, rarely bothering to open them in my Firefox.
One of the designers that fequent there started a forum, it isn%26#039;t very lively, but he really knows his stuff as well (he gave me some good suggestions on my site awhile back).
